About us

Young owners.
Real depth.

IK Plus (Pty) Ltd trades as Indigenous Knowledge Plus. We're a Level 1 B-BBEE, 100% black-owned and youth-owned metal fabrication shop at 44 Ilana Street, Delville, Germiston. Everyone here is under 35 and everyone here can run a machine.

Where the name comes from

Indigenous knowledge is what you learn from the place you live in.

Knowledge gained from interaction with the environment in which we exist. From early man beating rocks together to make fire, to landing on the moon and then switching the fire on with a remote.

Evolution started with people turning their surroundings into tools, and handing what they worked out to whoever came next. That is all indigenous knowledge is, and it is where this company got its name.

IK Plus was born from the same principle. Use the tools available now to push the next generation somewhere brighter, safer and more capable. In our case the tools happen to be a 6 kW laser and a 160 tonne press brake.

“In God we believe, In Deeds we Trust, In Genius we Thrive.”

Our core values, since day one

Every part that leaves here was drawn, programmed, cut, folded and checked by us.

Not by a subcontractor down the road. That's the whole reason the business exists in the shape it does.

We do cutting, bending, rolling and fabricating for a fairly specific slice of the metal and engineering industry: engineering contractors, construction firms, steel merchants and manufacturers, mostly in Gauteng but we deliver anywhere in the country.

The company is run by two directors, Manyike Tsundzukani Freedom and Mametja Silas Junior Reitumetse. Around them is a team of CNC operators, draughtsmen and laser technicians with over ten years of combined hands-on experience.

And then there's the other half of it, which surprises people. We write our own software. The IK+ platform runs the operational side of this workshop, and it's the reason we can tell you where your job is without walking to the machine to look.

The youth thing

People say it like it's a risk.

South Africa has one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world. Everybody knows the statistic. Fewer people know what it looks like from the other side of it.

Our directors were both born in 1996. Our laser operators, brake operators, draughtsmen and technicians are all under 35. When buyers hear that, some of them assume we're a training programme with a laser attached, and that their job is where we'll learn.

It's the other way round. We're not the recipients of anybody's skills initiative. We own the company, we run the machines, and the ten years of CNC experience on this floor is ours. Youth and depth of skill aren't opposites, whatever the industry assumes.

That's not a social pitch. It's just useful to know who you're actually dealing with when you phone.

The first question on most calls is still “and who does your cutting?”. It's us. It's been us the whole time.

Mission

To deliver client satisfaction through the leveraging of our expertise and know-how.

That's the formal wording, and we stand by it. In plainer language: every part, every tolerance, every delivery. We thrive on it.

Vision

Revolutionary and innovative solutions in the laser cutting and bending industry.

Committed to quality and efficiency, and keeping pace with technology instead of waiting for it to arrive.

What we hold to

Five things that don't move.

Precision

We cut and bend to the drawing, not to an approximation. Tolerances get verified before anything is packed.

Speed

Quotes turned around fast, jobs scheduled tightly, and delivery dates we actually meet.

Transparency

You know where your job is, because our systems track it as it happens.

Youth capability

Proof that young South Africans can own, operate and engineer industrial work at this level.

Accountability

If it isn't right, we make it right. The reputation gets built job by job, and lost the same way.

The floor

One roof in Germiston.

Laser, brake, welding bays, crane, draughting office and dispatch, all in the same building. The walk from the drawing to the machine is about twenty seconds, and that's not a coincidence.

Material handling

A 10 tonne crane, so heavy plate never waits for hired lifting gear.

One machine, one technician

Each machine has an operator who owns its output and its upkeep.

Directors on the floor

You deal with the people who can make a decision, not a call centre.

Compliance

Tender-ready paperwork,
without the chase.

If you're putting a submission together, ask and we'll send the whole pack the same day.

Come and see the place.

We like showing people round. Weekdays, phone ahead so someone's free, and you'll see the machines running rather than a slideshow of them.
